Pour redonner au texte de Sophocle son souffle d’origine, Evelyne de la Chenelière a procédé à un travail de réécriture, en abordant la pièce comme un corps sur lequel s’est déposée la poussière de décennies de violence, comme des cendres signifiantes qui font sentir le chemin sanglant de l’Histoire dans la triste pérennité de la violence. Électre, telle une nation trop longtemps humiliée, prend inévitablement le chemin de la violence, jusqu’à devenir plus terrifiante que ses bourreaux. Le personnage d’Électre nous rappelle que, encore aujourd’hui, la colère manifeste des femmes, contrairement à celle des hommes, dérange par son impudeur.
