MODULAR is an multi-sensory installation and performance where projections, music and dance interact with each other in real-time. The installation showcases the relationship between a human dancer and a virtual dance partner in the form of particles.
Over the creation period of three months during a residency at New York’s NEW INC , founded by the New Museum , the MODULAR team experimented in new ways of bridging the digital and the physical using technology, programming, sound, and dance.
Directed by Jasmin Jodry, the aim was to conduct a symbiotic flow between these three art forms, allowing them to create each other: sound data and dance movement generate the initial visuals. Every movement of the dancer affects the behavior of these visuals and pushes the sound spatially through the room. The dancer, in turn is inspired to improvise with the music and the visuals as her virtual dance partner.
